This charming Madeiran family home was built in the 18th century and more recently it was the home of well known French and British families. This hotel comprises a 2-storey main building with 40 rooms, of which 9 are suites and combines traditional comfort and style with modern facilities. The interior of this old manor house was refurbished and decorated to maintain its original standard and ambience. Upon entering the hotel, guests are welcomed into the lobby with 24-hour reception offering a safe, a currency exchange counter, a cloakroom and a lift. Additionally, the hotel offers a a library and a billiards room. Gastronomy options include dinner in the elegant dining hall, the breakfast room with a veranda, a stylish à la carte restaurant as well as a bar with a choice of tasty cocktails. In addition, the building includes conference facilities, Internet access, room and laundry services as well as medical assistance. A car park and a garage are also available for those arriving by car.
Location
This exclusive hotel is located in Funchal, close to the old town. From the hotel guests are offered a stunning view of the mountains and the sea. It is surrounded by 25,000 m² of romantic park-like gardens with an array of vegetation and a small lake. Links to the public transport system are located just 50 m from the hotel and from this point free shuttle buses run 4 times a day (only on week days). The immediate vicinity offers an array of shops and numerous restaurants, bars, pubs, cafes and various other leisure facilities. The inviting sandy beach with its turquoise blue sea, a beautiful marina and the town centre, which is well worth a visit, are all around 1.5 km away. The airport is located around 17 km from the hotel.
Room description
The extremely comfortably designed rooms include an en suite bathroom, a dressing gown, a hairdryer, a direct dial telephone, satellite/ cable TV, a radio, Internet connection, a minibar/ fridge, a king-sized bed, air conditioning, central heating, a seating area and a hire safe. Each of these tastefully furnished rooms also comes with a balcony or a terrace (with views over the garden).
Sports and entertainment
Surrounded by large beautiful tropical gardens the swimming pool features a poolside bar and a wonderful sun terrace (various parasols and sun loungers with cushions and beach towels included). Additionally, to relax, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a Turkish bath and a massage service (additional fees apply) are all available. Sports enthusiasts may play tennis, croquet, billiards/ snooker within the hotel or make use of the in house health club and gym; a golf course is available around 8 km away. A seasonal entertainment programme for adults rounds off this hotel's facilities.
